Taming of the shrew

Over the winter I had a couple of shrews dumped on my terrace, presumably by a cat. Makes sense, as shrews do not hibernate. Investigation showed them to be Greater White-toothed Shrews (Crocidura russula). I base this on the 'cauliflower' ears, rather than detailed examination of the teeth. People think shrews are related to mice, but they are not rodents - they are more closely related to moles.
