Shine on you crazy diamond

A bright point of light in the meadow below the house. A thrown cigarette?
Close inspection reveals an insect with a glowing abdomen.
Behold the common glow-worm beetle (Lampris noctiluca). The females are wingless and use bioluminescence from the last three segments of their abdomens to attract males.
